Artisan Gallery & Wine Centre
As well as a working potters studio, the gallery showcases a range of fine art and crafts by other artists. Tasmanian wine tasting is also available.
Tamar Valley Wine Route
There are about 20 Cellar Doors to choose from in the Tamar Valley wine Route, some also having restaurants. Tasmania is generally considered to be a late starter in the wine industry, but records show that Matthias Gaunt had a vineyard at Windemere in 1843, on the site of St Matthias Church.
Low Head
The Low Head Pilot Station is the oldest continuously working Pilot Station in Australia which started in 1805.
Rosevears Hotel
First licensed in 1831 it is still a popular waterhole, serving counter meals to locals and tourists alike.
Brady's Lookout
Spectacular views from Ben Lomond to the north coast made this an ideal lookout for bushranger Matthew Brady to observe his hunters while he was on the run. He was captured and executed in 1826. Today it is used as picnic grounds as well as a great viewing spot of the Tamar Valley.
Greens Beach
Beautiful unspoilt beaches and a golf course make it an ideal location for the whole family outing.
Rebecca Monument
Marks the spot where the Vessel 'Rebecca” was launched in 1834, prior to carrying John Batman in 1835 to Victoria, to form the settlement which is now Melbourne. |
